You will need:
- enough plasticine/clay to make a 10 cm x 20 cm track about 1 cm thick
- casts of some dinosaur footprints (see Make A Fossil Cast)
- a rolling pin
Part 1: Creating the scene
- Knead the plasticine/clay until it is soft.
- Use a rolling pin to make a track 10 cm wide, 20 cm long and approximately 1 cm thick.
- Use the casts of dinosaur footprints to stomp a track. Maybe your dinosaur was running and took big steps? Maybe it was walking very slowly? Or maybe it was walking from plant to plant, sniffing them out to find a good snack.
Part 2: Interpreting the evidence
Have a friend look at the track you made and see if they can work out what your dinosaur was doing! This is what palaentologists do sometimes when they find evidence of dinosaur tracks.
